My Storage Cloud is Cheaper Than Yours

In the crowded and competitive world of cloud computing, Blackblaze has come up with a way to provide cheap storage online. Using their newly open source, 4U, 76 terabyte, rack mount storage pod design, they can place one petabyte of storage online for a three year amortized cost of one penny per month per gigabyte. Including electricity, bandwidth, rack space, and IT salaries, Backblaze claims that they only need to spend one-tenth of the amount in comparison to using Amazon S3 for their storage service. As a high-capacity (unlimited), low-cost online backup service, it makes perfect sense for Backblaze to build their own storage infrastructure. Paying retail to outsource their core infrastucture would eat too much away at those (probably) slim margins. I might try their service out. They got me with their cool infographics and design diagrams. I'm easy.
